IHN Cincinnati Admissions Criteria

Our mission statement is “ to provide homeless families emergency shelter and hospitality through interfaith communities and to work with these families to find and retain stable housing.”  In order to be admitted to the IHNGC shelter program, therefore, persons must be a member of a family including children under the age of 18.  Family members who meet those criteria may be male or female of any age.  IHNGC admits male parents and male children under the age of 18.  IHNGC will also consider admitting other members of the family besides parents and children, such as grandparents, significant others to the heads of households, and children over age 18 if living with the admitted parent and if other children under the age of 18 are also present.  As long as the basic criteria are met, IHNGC does not exclude anyone based upon race, gender, age, ethnic origin, or sexual orientation.

IHNGC may exclude persons who are involved or were recently involved in a domestic violence situation.  Exclusion will be based upon a reasonable possibility that domestic violence could occur again while the person is at IHNGC or that the safety and security of others may be reasonably thought to be in jeopardy.  The Case Manager or Executive Director will make that determination.

IHNGC will also exclude anyone known to be actively abusing alcohol or abusing other substances, illegal or prescription.

IHNGC may also exclude persons whose recent criminal record indicates a reasonable possibility that they may cause harm to others.  The Case Manager or Executive Director will make that determination based upon evidence available to them.

IHNGC may also exclude persons with contagious diseases that require the patient to be quarantined, as IHNGC does not have the facilities to quarantine such persons.  The Case Manager or Executive Director will make that determination based upon information available to them.

IHNGC may also exclude persons with behavioral problems sever enough that they may reasonably be considered a threat to the safety and well being of others.  The Case Manager or Executive director will make that determination based upon information available to them.

IHNGC may revoke admissions and exit persons from the program should information indicating exclusion from the program based upon the above criteria becomes evident after the person has been admitted.
